City of Sparta

Sparta is the only incorporated municipality in Hancock County, which was once a cotton farming area but is now a forested area. The city is located in the central region of the state near Ga. highways 15 and 16.

According to 2000 Census, the City of Sparta had a population of 1,522 persons. Between 1990 and 2000, the city experienced a population decrease of -11.0%, compared to the state growth during this period of 26.4%.
